Benefits of Onshoring
At Plascon, we love breaking the mold and creating solutions others may have thought impossible. Take onshoring, for example. It’s long been thought that the only cost-effective solution for manufacturing was to go overseas, but that’s not the case anymore. We’re proving that with a little innovation, onshoring is actually the more cost-effective–not to mention lower risk–solution. Here are some benefits to onshoring:

Lush Cosmetics
LUSH wanted a closed-loop solution for their iconic black pots to reduce the impact their products had on the global plastics crisis. But they didn’t want to just not contribute to the problem; they wanted to be part of the solution by using 100% PCR and ocean waste plastics to create their pots. This was an industry first in cosmetics, and we gladly took on the challenge.
Together, we created an award-winning sustainable packaging product for LUSH. We helped them find, source, and create a reliable PCR plastic stream, and alongside Ocean Legacy, we created their iconic black pots with PCR plastic and ocean plastic waste. But we didn’t stop there. We helped develop the closed-loop system that encourages their clients to return used containers for repurposing into new ones. LUSH is a shining example of a truly circular manufacturing model—one of few that exist at this scale.
Cove West
Cove West was an opportunity for us to prove that onshoring can be just as cost-effective (if not cheaper) than overseas manufacturing. While their overseas manufacturer appeared to be the less expensive option, they did not like having to carry 12 weeks’ worth of inventory to manage supply chain disruptions and changes to demand. We knew we could offer them a better solution.
By designing and managing the manufacturing of a new high cavitation mold, we were able to lower the price Cove West had been paying overseas for manufacturing. In fact, we achieved savings of over $100k per annum in comparison to their overseas rates. We did this not just by making their production more cost-efficient, but by de-risking their supply chain and lessening their inventory needs.
Chemical Guys
A benefit to onshoring is reducing the risks associated with overseas production, which is exactly what the Chemical Guys were struggling with. High tariffs and major supply chain disruptions had them looking to onshoring options to secure their supply chain.
Plascon’s ability to reliably manufacture at high volume was exactly what the Chemical Guys were looking for in an onshore partner. We helped them transition to domestic production, which served to not only eliminate the tariff and supply chain issues they had been struggling against, but also achieved their cost management goals. Plascon now proudly produces 200 thousand parts per month for Chemical Guys.
